Dr. Deshpande is a board certified Pediatric Cardiologist at Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta. His clinical areas of expertise are Cardiac Intensive Care, Pediatric Heart Failure and Heart Transplantation. He is an Assistant Professor of Pediatrics at Emory University School of Medicine and additionally is the Medical Director for Mechanical Circulatory Support Program at Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta.
Dr. Deshpande received his medical education from LTM Medical College, Mumbai, India. He completed additional residency training at University of Iowa followed by fellowships in Pediatric Cardiology and Pediatric Cardiac Intensive Care at Emory University. He has additional Master of Science degree in Epidemiology and Public Health (Clinical Research) from University of Iowa.
He has various active research projects including those related to Cardiac ECMO, mechanical support devices such as VADs, pediatric heart transplant and cardiac intensive care. His research is supported by multitude of grants including those from NIH/NHLBI as well as various local and organizational grants. He has numerous presentations and publications in peer reviewed journals. He has special interest in improving outcomes for high risk, chronic pediatric health conditions via research and technology. Additionally, he serves as a Chair of the Scientific Advisory Board for Enduring Hearts, which is a non-profit organization dedicated to heart transplantation.
