Dr. Laband earned his medical degree from Tufts University School of Medicine, and trained in General Internal Medicine at Maine Medical Center in Portland, Maine, where he also served as Chief Resident. He went on to practice comprehensive Internal Medicine for 15 years at a 22-bed Critical Access hospital in a very small community in western Maine, where all specialist support services were 30-40 miles away. He then transitioned to hospitalist medicine and eventually outpatient primary care at a somewhat larger healthcare system on the beautiful coast of Maine. After 20 years of challenging and rewarding practice in rural Maine communities, Dr. Laband recently transitioned with his teenage daughter to northern California to pursue new directions and opportunities. In addition to his full-time outpatient Internal Medicine practice, Dr. Laband is also providing independent medical consultations for a functional rehabilitation and pain management service which specializes in weaning patients off chronic opioid therapy and utilizing CBT, biofeedback, physical conditioning, dietlifestyle change counseling and mindfulness techniques to help patients learn healthier and more effective methods to manage chronic pain and live opiate-free lives. His many years of frustration with poorly-designed EMR systems has created a passion to find ways of using technology to help physicians practice better quality and more patient-centered medicine. Dr. Laband is Board Certified in Internal Medicine, and is a member of the American College of Physicians. He maintains active licenses in both Maine and California.
