Dr McMahon is an ophthalmologist and eye physician who completed his residency in Ophthalmology at University of Michigan in Ann Arbor in 1978. His fellowship training in Glaucoma was at University of California San Francisco (UCSF) in 1979. He has been in private practice in Colorado Springs as a glaucoma consultant for over 35 years. He is also an Associate Clinical Professor Emeritus at the U of Colorado Medical Center (UCH Eye Center- Rocky Mountain Lions Eye Institute) where he attended senior resident clinics on a regular basis for 30 years. He is senior fellow of the American Academy of Ophthalmology and a member of the American Glaucoma Society. He has developed and operated three ASC’s dedicated to eye surgery.
He has performed over 40,000 eye surgeries including laser eye surgery, cataract surgery, glaucoma surgery, cornea surgery (lasik, DSEK’s and transplants) as well as retinal surgery. Some of these procedures were performed on missionary trips in Honduras and the Dominican Republic.
He has developed multiple satellite offices and has used telemedicine systems in these offices for over 10 years. He was approached to develop a telemedicine system for eye care in the large prison system in Colorado in 2001. However, funding for this project was not approved but the system worked very well even though it was developed in 2000. He is currently attempting to develop better software for eye care with telemedicine. He remains in private practice and is an active surgeon in Colorado Springs and Denver Hospitals.
